Physics Honors
The word “physics” has connections to Latin and Greek terms for “natural science”, and “science of nature”. One definition describes it as “the science that deals with matter, energy, motion, and force.” Some consider physics as the most basic science because so many of its principles spill over into other areas of science (chemistry, biology, earth science, etc.) and engineering. At its heart is a desire to describe how the world works, not just conceptually, but also mathematically. The topics covered in physics include the following:
Motion- displacement, velocity, and acceleration
Forces- gravity, friction
Rotational motion
Momentum and Impulse
Work and Energy
Electricity- static and current electricity
Waves- light and sound
